Review Detail
1996 Dalwhinnie Shiraz
Wine Rating
91
An ageing Pyrenees powerhouse, this is one of the first times i have had a look at a Dalwhinnie wine over 10 years old, and i thoroughly enjoyed the experience
As expected the wine is more of a dull than youthful red in the glass, with the nose giving aged characters of old leather, subtle blackberry and a touch of wood.
At this stage of it's life this wine is all about the textures on the palate, there is still some blackberry and plum fruits that given the wines age are a real surprise, it is this fruit that is contrasted by leather and olive characters. The wine has great length on the finish, with some angular acidity still kept in check by the fruit that will become more prominent as the wine continues to age.
