Review Detail
2014 Ulithorne Frux Frugis Shiraz
Wine Rating
96
This is a reserve release from Ulithorne and sits at the very top end of wines from McLaren Vale. It's a wine of great concentration but maintains and elegance and finesse that exudes class.
A dark red in the glass the nose has a beautiful combination of fruit and oak with dark plum fruit given an aromatic, seductive lift of vanillin oak and a background note of leather that takes it to another plane.
The palate is awash with dark chocolate and plum fruit, oak gives richness, texture and depth with a flowing line of acidity that keeps the wines richer characters in check. The finish has a drying, earthen web of tannins and layers of dark berry fruit and chocolate notes.
