Shiraz October 25, 2017
1992 Hanging Rock Heathcote Shiraz
Wine Rating

92
This was the last vintage from the vineyard that had been leased by Hanging Rock for their inaugural releases from Heathcote. The vineyard was impacted by salinity and beyond the 1992 vintage the vineyard was not viable. It’s a pity as the last wine made from the site still has plenty to offer today.

The wine was bottled in magnum only which will have impacted it’s ageing when compared to 750ml bottles, but it retains a dark red with minimal bricking. There is a flint like character to dark fruits and earthen notes on the nose, the palate retains definition of plum and blackberry and is framed by generosity of oak induced spice. The finish shows a more leathery aspect to the fruit, but there is drive and length that will see this wine hold for years to come.
