Shiraz October 25, 2017
1997 Hanging Rock Heathcote Shiraz
Wine Rating

89
The first vintage from Athol’s Paddock that has become and will remain the home of the Hanging Rock Heathcote Shiraz. The 20 acre property was planted in 1994 with only 4 acres in production for this vintage. The wine spent 18 months in new American Oak.

The oak is evident on the nose with coffee / mocha tones along with sweet vanillin inputs that lead brambly plum fruit and a touch of iodine.

There is generosity of fruit that is peppered with spice inititally but over the journey it loses some of its vitality with leathery fruit and blocky tannins an indicator that this wine is ready to drink now.
