Pimpernel are a next door neighbour of Yarra Yering, with Mark Horrigan (Owner & Winemaker) fortunate enough to spend some time with the late Bailey Carrodus which could only help the quality of Pimpernel wines.
The 2012 GSM is a vibrant red in colour, with a nose of strawberry and raspberry fruits that is given a musky vanillin lift that i would swear was viognier, but on inspection turned out to be muscat of alexander.
The wine is decidedly medium bodied, but expresses bright clean red fruits against a backdrop of savoury, structural tannins, layered spices and fresh acidity. This is a style that pushes the boundaries but is executed very well.
