Marcus Hill Vineyard is located in the Bellarine Peninsula, a region that is very much undervalued in terms of it’s natural beauty as well as it’s ability to produce some exceptional wines.

The vineyard itself has approximately 2.5 hectares under vine consisting of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Pinot Gris. The property is owned and tended to by Richard and Margot Harrison, having been founded in 1999.

I was lucky enough to go out the vineyard and spend some time with Richard to go through the wines, and thoroughly enjoyed his no fuss attitude and general hospitality.

Wines were sampled at room temperature, with no fear of highlighting wine faults, with current and back vintages fished out of boxes that seemed to have little or no filing system.

The wines themselves highlight the distinctive character of Bellarine wines, with the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in particular showcasing why more people should be looking to this region for premium cool climate wines.

Marcus Hill Vineyard is a name to watch out for, in particular the People Madly Stomping range are fantastic value at $19 a bottle.
